MY GUIDE TO FITNESS IN BATH.

Fitness in Bath: What’s the deal?

Finally the fitness scene is starting to boom here in Bath!

When I lived in London, the volume of classes and boutique studios on offer was huge. They say there’s a Starbucks on every street in NYC, well, that’s what it was like with studios in London. And as someone who has a real passion for fitness and exercise, I massively took it for granted. My weekends were often filled with studio-based workouts followed by brunch. Could I BE more millennial?!

Well, that changed when I initially moved back to Bath. Of course Bath has gyms that offer classes, but there wasn’t a place that matched the likes of 1Rebel, Barry’s Bootcamp or Psycle.

Yoga in a school-hall just wasn’t for me. (Disclaimer: I’m not a snob, I just found it quite difficult to switch off and relax in that environment).

6 months on, I am MORE THAN happy to say Bath has upped its game and about time too! With studios opening left, right and centre, we are finally getting premium facilities that offer an array of amazing classes.

So, I thought I’d put together a round-up of my Top 5, in no particular order!

Spin Village.

Where: 26 Milsom St, Milsom Place, Bath BA1 1BZ
When: 7:30am – 8pm Monday to Friday & 9am-12pm Saturday and Sunday.
Deets: Indoor Cycling Studio (Spinning).

Spin Village makes fitness and spinning in particular, accessible for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a newbie or a pro-cycler, the studio will be able to cater for you.

5 of Bath’s best spin instructors will put you through your paces providing you with either a 30 or 45 minute fun and motivational workout. The best bit? You get to decide how hard you work. Spinning gives you the power to determine your resistance. So if you want to take it easy, you can. Equally, if you want to enter beast mode, do it!

Post-workout, enjoy the luxury showers and high-end products that the studio offers. With towels, shoes, hairdryers and straighteners all provided, all you need is your gym kit and a change of clothes!

Classes can be booked online via the website, or on the Spin Village app.

The Hive
.

Where: 4 The Foundry, Beehive Yard, Bath BA1 5BT
When: Monday to Sunday, various times.
Deets: Relaxing and energising yoga experience for everyBODY no matter what age or experience.

Tucked away in Beehive Yard, The Hive is a beautiful modern studio away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. It’s situated in a peaceful location by the river where you can zone out and have a bit of well-deserved you time. The eco-friendly studio is owned and run by Lucy & Bex two incredibly talented and amazing yogis. From Forrest to HIIT Yoga, you’ll leave The Hive feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle the day ahead.

The Instagrammable wings will make your visit even better, because if you don’t get the post-workout pic, did you even workout?

Sweaty Betty – Get Fit for Free
.

Where: 13 Northgate St, Bath BA1 5AS
When: Various, check the Sweaty Betty Booking Page.
Deets: Pilates, HIIT, Yoga & Run Club classes take place each week.

Every week, Sweaty Betty provide free fitness classes for locals introducing some of Bath’s best instructors. I’ve been to a number of their yoga classes and love it. Mats are provided but be sure to book quick as the spots get waitlisted early on.

I’m also a huge fan of their clothing, so its a great opportunity to check out all the latest pieces! Be sure to like the Sweaty Bath Page on Facebook to receive updates about classes and times!

TONIQ
.

Where: 5 Green Park Rd, Bath BA1 1BQ

When: 6am – 7pm Monday to Friday & 7:30am – 9:30am Saturday.
Deets: Functional Group Training.

Now, I may be biased because lots of my friends are trainers there, but I think TONIQ is great! Like Spin Village, it’s a boutique studio and has redefined group exercise in Bath. Train hard, sweat hard is their motto! The studio provides a variety of 45-minute classes 6 days a week. From BURN, to SWEAT to STRONGER – there’s bound to be a class for you!

CLASS Bath
.

Where: Ground Floor, Sovereign Point, Bath Riverside, BA2 3GJ
When: 6.30am – 9pm Monday to Friday, & 8am – 12pm Saturday and Sunday.
Deets: Small intimate classes to suit all ages.

CLASS is a new members-only studio situated a short walk from the city centre offering 4 totally different class-options – Turn & Burn, Primal Patterns, Yoga and Upper Classes.

Turn & Burn is the higher intensity option and is similar to the likes of Barry’s. Think stationary wattbikes, benches, medicine balls, battle ropes! Primal patterns is similar to animal flow and focuses linking body weight movements into a sequence of patterns.

The Yoga studio, with floor to ceiling windows, is the ideal place to try out a variety of practices – Yin and Yan, Hatha and Restorative. Both studio’s have a maximum capacity of 12 people, enabling members to enjoy bespoke teaching and the opportunity of some 1-to-1 time with trainers.

Upper Class classes are specifically aimed at over 60’s and those who might be new to exercise. These sessions are scaled-down versions of the existing classes, but promise to still increase your endurance, stamina, flexibility, balance, agility and strength.

Try your first session for free here.

I couldn’t be happier that the South West is jumping on the fitness band-wagon. Who knows, maybe people in Bath will also start taking post-workout selfies. Finally I won’t be the only one!

Have you given any of these places a go yet? Or, have you got any to add to the list? Be sure to let me know in the comments below!

P.S. I try to share what’s going on in Bath on my IG stories, so be sure to always have peep on those if you’re interested!
